LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 25, 2023) – Joblessness along the Lakeshore rose slightly in July.
That’s according to numbers disclosed on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. The not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Ottawa County stood at 3.6 percent for the month, a tenth of a percentage point higher than in June, and two-tenths above the level of a year ago. The Allegan County figure was at 3.8 percent for July, up a tenth for the month and the year.
The local labor trends reflected those across the state, where 14 of the 17 major markets saw jobless rates rise from June levels, along with 51 of the 83 counties in Michigan. State officials say that the increases were typical for this time of the year, due in part to seasonal job cuts in the governmental sector.
