HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 25, 2023) – It may be wise to take a wide berth around the Hope College campus on Friday morning.
Freshmen who are required to spend their first year living at the Holland-based institution of higher education will be moving into campus housing units. School officials and public safety authorities are asking those not involved with this process to not drive into the campus area, and to be aware of vehicles stopping along 9th Street downtown to drop off students and their belonging during the morning hours.
Although exact enrollment numbers won’t be made known until the middle of next month, Hope officials are predicting a large incoming Class of 2027, along with a substantial number of transfer students. These projections are based on a second straight year of record applications, with 5,206 for 2023 following 5,151 applying last fall, and overall enrollment could approach 3,300. Hope had deliberately cut down on admissions this year in the hopes of stabilizing enrollment.
Returning students will be admitted to on-campus housing on Sunday, when the Opening Convocation will be held at 2 PM in DeVos Fieldhouse, which will be free and open to the public. Classes are to begin on Tuesday.
