LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 18, 2023) – There will be five persons vying for an open seat on the Laketown Township Board of Trustees.
Ray Buursma, Jay Cravens, Patrick Dietrich, Stacey Lefevre and Mike Van Putten emerged from 13 applicants for the spot vacated by last month’s retirement of Gary Dewey. The four current board members separately reviewed the applications before selecting three candidates as finalists, with their votes then tallied.
Buursma is a retired teacher and corrections officer; Cravens has past municipal experience in Tennessee and Michigan; Dietrich is a Coast Guard veteran with experience in both business and security; Lefevre works in the financial office at Grand Valley State University; and Van Putten works for a water quality firm. They are looking for the part-time position that pay $5,000 annually.
They will now be interviewed, one at a time, during a special board meeting on August 30th before one will be chosen to serve through the November 5, 2024 General Election. This special board meeting will begin at 6 PM in the Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
