HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 17, 2023) – After an apparent lull, the effort to have broadband access across the city of Holland looks to be back on the fast track.
During Wednesday night’s biweekly business meeting, the Holland City Council unanimously approved the authorization of selling up to $23 million in unlimited tax general obligation bonds to fund the expansion of the Holland BPW’s broadband Internet transport services. The vote comes a year after voters approved the issuance of up to $30 million over 25 years for this initiative, and according to Mayor Nathan Bocks, the financial effect on property owners won’t be immediately evident.
Since the vote last August, it’s been an planning effort for BPW General Manager Dave Koster and his staff as to how to implement this expansion.
While residents will see crews at work above ground, much of what those contractors will be doing will be under ground.
A second series of bonds to finish the project is planned for two years from now. The first series of bonds is expected to be up for sale in about six weeks.
