HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 11, 2023) – Bryan Huffman will be attempting something nobody has ever done in Lake Michigan before.
The 50-year-old Holland ophthalmologist will be stepping into the Big Lake on Saturday morning, weather permitting, off of Rawley Point Lighthouse, just north of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and head to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse north of Ludington the next day. Already in the record books for swimming across the English Channel last year, Huffman will be tracing the path first taken by 35-year-old Jim Dreyer in 1998, with a little twist.
Huffman seeks to raise $50,000 for the Holland Aquatic Center, for which he is a member, and it’s a facility that, ironically, Dreyer trained at prior to his initial Lake Michigan swim.
Huffman emphasizes the importance of teaching youngsters how to swim.
Huffman makes his attempt 10 days after Dreyer’s attempt to swim from Milwaukee to Grand Haven was aborted after 10 miles due to weather conditions. More information on Bryan’s Big Lake Swim is here.
