David Lee Vander Hill was born to Adrian and Nella Vander Hill on November 1, 1937. He grew up in Holland, MI, near Kollen park. He loved swimming in Lake Macatawa and playing basketball with his friends. His mother died when he was seven years old.
God blessed Dave with a Christian community that encouraged him to love and follow Jesus. He met the love of his life, Mary Wolters, as a freshman at Holland Christian High School. They were married in 1959 and, soon thereafter, began their family. He and Mary were hard working, dedicated and loving parents of 5 children. Dave was a strong Christian leader. He served in the Coast Guard. He taught and counseled at Holland Christian High School for 33 years. Dave coached basketball and enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a faithful member of the Overisel CRC.
Mary died of cancer eleven years ago. Dave eventually found a new home in Appledorn Senior housing, where he enjoyed his friends and continued as the loving patriarch of the now large Vander Hill family (45 and growing!).
At age 85, Dave’s body started to fail. He left this earth on August 6 and by God’s grace, is in Heaven.
Dave is survived by his sister Mary (Jim) Dwyer, brother Jack (Hilda) Vander Hill and his sister-in-laws Dorthy Vliem and Dorthy Wolters, his children, Joy (John) Welch, Scott (Valisa) Vander Hill, Dean (Kim) Vander Hill, Dan (Kristi) Vander Hill and Jon (Sarah) Vander Hill and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
