ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 31, 2023) – Two teenagers are in custody following a Sunday night police chase from Holland’s North Side that ended with a crash in Zeeland.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Eric deBoer, deputies were dispatched to a residence off of 112th Avenue south of Riley Street around 9:15 PM on a report of a domestic assault. Before the prowl car arrived, a suspect was picked up by a friend and left the scene, but their vehicle was spotted by deputies, and a chase ensued.
The pursuit apparently didn’t last long, as the suspect vehicle tried to turn at the intersection of 104th Avenue and Alice Street, between Chicago Drive and Business 196, but struck a fire hydrant and was stopped in its tracks. The two teens then jumped out of the disabled vehicle and tried to run away, but were caught a short distance away.
The original suspect and the driver of the vehicle were armed at the time of their arrest, and were taken to the Ottawa County Youth Home pending arraignment on juvenile criminal charges. The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
