Wilma Joyce (Topp) Veldheer, age 91 of Zeeland, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence (Larry) Veldheer, on February 21, 2022. She is survived by daughter, Laura Veldheer of Rockford; son, David Veldheer of Holland; daughter-in-law, Pam Veldheer of Holland; daughter, Diane Veldheer of Zeeland; and daughter, Marj and Willie Taylor of Zeeland. Grandchildren/great-grandchildren of Wilma include, Kristen Grassmid, children Chase, Bowen, Breah and Ava; Kyle and Brandie Veldheer, children Brett and Whyatt; Justine and Dylan VanTubergen; Savannah Taylor, and Gabe Taylor.
Wilma was born on April 23, 1932, the youngest daughter of Margery and William Topp, in Holland, Michigan. She was a graduate of Holland High School. She attended Pillar Church as a child and has been a lifelong member of Third Christian Reformed Church of Zeeland, MI.
At the age of 13, Wilma was a car hop at A & W Drive-In where she met the love of her life, Larry. At the age of 17, she started working for Haan Motor Sales. On her 20th birthday, she and Larry where married. Shortly after, they moved to Zeeland where they started a family. Along with raising their children, Wilma was very involved with her church and community: taught Calvinettes, member of the Mission Guild, member of the Zeeland Christian School Apple Dumpling Circle, Coffee Break, 4-H Sewing instructor, served on the City of Zeeland election board for over 40 years and CRWRC Disaster Relief. One of her greatest passions was working with the Zeeland Historical Society where she was a Charter member from 1976 – 2008. After retirement, she and Larry, spent 18 years as volunteer Camp Ground Hosts at Silver Lake State Park.
Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and friend to many people who loved her. She lived her faith and was not afraid to share it with anyone she met. Up until the day she passed into glory she was singing God’s praises saying over and over, “God is so good”. She will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 2023 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Third Christian Reformed Church, 10 W. Central Avenue, Zeeland, Michigan. A funeral service to celebrate Wilma’s life will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Third Christian Reformed Church. The Service will be live streamed from the church’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ Third-Church-Zeeland for those unable to attend. Burial will be at Zeeland Cemetery.
