PAW PAW, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 21, 2023) – A long-running scam continues along the Lakeshore.
On Wednesday, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents there that, “Unknown subjects…are calling individuals who have public personal information and advising them that they have warrants for their arrest, or that they need to have federal finger prints taken. In order to authenticate the calls, the suspects are using well-known names of employees of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.”
Just change the name to that of “Holland Police” or “Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services” and the same scam is being used locally, according to HPD Detective Jason Valenzuela.
The best advice law enforcement can give is to just hang up on the caller and notify police of the call, the text and/or the email, letting authorities take the matter from there.
