ANN ARBOR, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 19, 2023) – A project aimed to revamp individual gardening plots into a community gathering space in Holland is getting some financial seed money.
The Michigan Municipal League Foundation announced on Wednesday that the Growing Food, Growing Fun, Growing Fellowship initiative is one of eight projects receiving 2023 Bridge Builders Microgrants out of over 100 applicants, as determined through a juried process conducted in June. The Neighborhood Microgrants are up to a $1,000 of one-time offerings aimed at building bridges across MML member communities by bringing people together.
The Growing Food, Growing Fun, Growing Fellowship effort is through the Washington School Neighbors group, a partnership between neighbors, businesses, churches and the City of Holland. It centers around a community garden at the corner of West 10th Street and Maple Avenue, with 7 PM meetings every second Wednesday during the summer (next meeting on June 26th).
Other West Michigan communities receiving MML Foundation microgrants include Muksegon, Kalamazoo, Marcellus and Vicksburg.
