Philip Persenaire, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2023, in Peabody, MA.
He was born in Eastmanville, Michigan on November 6, 1933. He graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in Canada, Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and University of Michigan. He served two years in the US Army in California and taught English Literature for 37 years at Holland Christian High School. His hobbies included wood working, gardening, and traveling with Loie to all 50 states, parts of Europe, Canada, and Uganda. He was a member of West Church, Peabody MA, and Central Avenue CRC in Holland, MI.
Philip was preceded in death by daughter, Lori Jean; son, James Philip; parents, Adam and Dora Persenaire, Benjamin and Alice Harmsen; stepmother, Connie Harmsen; brothers, Daniel, Case (Jean), David (Joyce), Ted (Gladys), Bob; sister, Betty Vriend; in-laws, Neal Helmus, Gerald Harmsen, Dale and Shirley Buit;
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lois; son, Tom (Sue); daughter-in-law Mary Tullila; grandchildren, Philip (Kristina), Matthew (Ashley), Joshua, Jenette Bourckel (Patrick), Bethany Kenney (Joel), Benjamin (Susan); 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Adrian (Delia), Paul (Iris); sisters, Jess Helmus, Dorothy (Art) VanderKruk, Helen; brother-in-law, Harry Vriend; sister-in-law, Carol; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 11:00 am at West Church, 27 Johnson Street, Peabody, MA 01960. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-10:30am prior to the service.
