Jeanette Koops, 101, passed peacefully at home on July 13 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of Anna Hulst Brinks and George R. Brinks. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, her son-in-law, Calvin Hoffman, and brothers Justin and Rondell Brinks, along with many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many dear friends. She is survived by her children Darwin and Judy Koops, Linda Koops, Wesley and Glenda Koops, Jean Hoffman and Bill Buikema, and Jeff and Lonnie Nykerk. She took great delight in her 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and they in her.
Her strong faith compelled her to share her piano and organ playing talents for 72 years in local churches and beyond. She was a kind, gracious, hospitable woman with an open heart, remembering people with cards, notes, calls, and prayers, continuing until her death. She remembered so many life-changing events: the arrival of the telephone, electricity, the automobile and indoor plumbing. The influenza epidemic, the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War–all affected her deeply as a child and young adult. Before her marriage, she worked at Dutch Novelty, the Wooden Shoe Factory, and was one of numerous women constructing landing craft during World War II at the Holland Chris Craft factory.
She married Alvin Koops in 1945, and jointly they farmed, raised their children, and eventually started Koops Well Drilling, which survives today. She loved the farm they shared and lived there her entire married life.
If you were fortunate enough to have known Jeanette, you loved her and were blessed.
Services for Jeanette will be held at Langeland-Sterenberg, 315 East 16th Street, Holland. Visitation Thursday, July 20, 5-7 p.m.; memorial service Friday, July 21, 10:00 a.m. Private internment.
