James “Jim” Zylstra, 85, of Zeeland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 16, 2023.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 64 years, Martha Zylstra, their children: Kim and Kel Busscher, Mary and Dave Lamberts, Mike and Michelle Zylstra; their grandchildren: Kurtis Busscher, Keith and Afton Busscher, Kendall and Kaylin Busscher, Ryan Lamberts, Ross Lamberts, Riley Lamberts, Rachel Zylstra, Derek Zylstra; great-grandchildren: Avery, Hayden and Owen Busscher, Wyatt, Arlow, & Elliana Busscher; brother Ed and Joyce Zylstra, in-laws: Mike Becksvoort, Barbara Becksvoort, Julia Stadt, Leona Scholten, Ruth Becksvoort, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Patricia Zylstra, brothers: John and Eef Zylstra, Albert Zylstra, parents-in-law Harry and Gertie Beckvoort, brothers and sisters-in-law: Harvey Becksvoort, Art and Lois Becksvoort, Marvin Stadt, Wayne Scholten, James Becksvoort, Elaine Becksvoort.
The Zylstra family immigrated from the Netherlands in 1953. Jim attended Holland Christian Schools and Davenport University. He was a member of Hudsonville Reformed Church (PCA). Jim served as an elder and deacon in several churches. Jim’s career was spent in trucking sales and management for 42 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida for 18 years. Jim also enjoyed volunteering with Crossroads Prison Ministries and fishing in Lake Michigan.
His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 32:1 “Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sin is covered.” His favorite hymns were “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, “Amazing Grace”, & “Bless the Lord O My Soul.”
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Holland and the staff at Appledorn Assisted Living for their loving care provided to Jim and the family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 9:45-10:45 am prior to the funeral service. Interment will be Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or Crossroad Prison Ministry.
