ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 16, 2023) – Two teenagers are in custody following the theft of three vehicles in the Allendale area around dawn on Sunday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matthew Wildfong, deputies were dispatched to the area of Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) and Avery Avenue, east of 68th Avenue, around 6:30 AM on a report of suspicious-looking persons snooping around vehicles and trying to get into them. Three such vehicles were taken, and at Lake Michigan Drive and 74th Avenue, a police pursuit ensured.
The three vehicles went east on M-45, with one of them turning right onto southbound 48th Avenue. That vehicle then attempted to turn left onto Filmore Street, but crashed into a house at the corner there. The two teens jumped out and attempted to flee on foot, but were caught a short distance away and taken into custody on several juvenile charges. One of the two had to be hospitalized for a brief time for stitches to close a cut on his finger before heading into the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center.
The other two vehicles continued east on M-45, and after reaching speeds of over 110 miles per hour, the chase was called off by authorities. The suspects were also driving erratically at the time. Wildfong made no mention of any subsequent police action on those two vehicles or its occupants in his report on Sunday afternoon.
The case remains under investigation.
Sounds just like what happened with the vehicles stolen from Zeeland last weekend…wonder if they are connected.
