HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 13, 2023) – Just because something is nearly 60 years old doesn’t mean that it can’t change.
Fiesta, which celebrates the Lakeshore’s Hispanic heritage, began its 59th year on Wednesday with holding kids activities at the Holland Farmers Market, and on Thursday evening, it was Latin entertainment in the midst of the weekly summer Downtown Street Performer series. More of that entertainment, as well as food trucks, will be at Kollen Park on Friday evening for the weekly summer Concert in the Park series, before the major events come up on Saturday at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place, from 12 Noon to 11:30 PM.
Fiesta has undergone several changes in the past couple of decades due to the moving up of starting the Tulip Time Festival to the first Saturday in May, as well as the renovation of the Civic Center which moved Fiesta’s venue to the Shops at Westshore. This new mid-July time, as well as stretching activities over a four-day span, and bringing the hub of Fiesta back to downtown Holland, continues this trend, according to Johnny Rodriguez, who is in his second year as Executive Director of Latin Americans United for Progress.
