PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 12, 2023) – A 63-year-old Holland woman was hospitalized on Tuesday night after her vehicle sent a boulder into a building south of Lake Macatawa.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes, the unnamed motorist was northbound on 64th Avenue around 10:15 PM when she apparently drove through a stop sign at the T-shaped intersection with West 32nd Street. Her vehicle went through the intersection and crashed into a row of boulders meant to prevent vehicles from driving into a storage building. While those stones were able to stop the vehicle, the force of the collision sent one of those boulders into that building, causing an undisclosed amount of damage.
The woman was extricated from her vehicle by rescuers and taken to an undisclosed “local hospital” in serious condition. The building was unoccupied at the time, and no other vehicles were involved.
Smoes didn’t immediately disclose what may have led the motorist to drive through the intersection as the crash remains under investigation.
