Alaine was born June 9, 1931, in Holland, to Peter and Katy (Elzinga) Dalman.
Alaine married Dewey Knoll on October 20, 1950, and they raised their two children in South Olive. They were longtime members of South Olive Christian Reformed Church where Alaine played the organ for Sunday worship, weddings, funerals, and hymn-sings. She enjoyed volunteering especially at Right to Life, and Bibles for Mexico. Alaine also worked for several years baking at Russ’ Commissary. Her baking talents were well known and her family has great memories and many favorites. She is said to have “entered heaven with cupcakes in her hands”.
Alaine was a thoughtful and caring encourager to family and friends. She spent many hours writing cards and notes to those she knew needed extra care, love, and encouragement. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey in 1995, and her son-in-law Thomas Van Kley in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Howard, Preston, Glenn, Cynthia, and Zella.
She is survived by her daughter Rose Van Kley of Zeeland, and her son Mick & Rebecca Knoll of Holland; her grandchildren: Travis & Tonya Barber, Michael Barber, Katherine & Eric Voight, Miranda & Joseph Reddy, Aaron and Lacey Knoll, Abbie and Josh Walters; 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters: Yvonne and Laverne Baumann, Coral Swieringa; brother-in-law Laverne Vanden Brink, and many extended family members.
A private burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 PM Sunday, just prior to the memorial service. Donations may be made to Bibles for Mexico, or World Renew.
