ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 30, 2023) – A 49-year-old Grandville man has lost his life following a single vehicle crash on Thursday morning in Allendale.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ryan DeVries, Daniel Levoy was driving his truck westbound on Lake Michigan Drive (M-45), reportedly in an erratic manner, hitting street signs and curbs. Around 10:45 AM, Deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of Lake Michigan Drive and 64th Street, where the man’s vehicle lost control entirely, went off of the roadway, and struck a tree.
After rescue workers extricated the man out of his vehicle, he was taken to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in critical condition, and it appeared to deputies and medics that the erratic driving stemmed from a medical emergency. The area was blocked off for some time as the driver was tended to and the crash was reconstructed by investigators before the scene was cleared. No other vehicles were involved.
On Friday morning, Sheriff’s Captain David VanderPloeg was notified by the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office that Levoy had succumbed to his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
