Catherine was born December 31, 1924, in Grand Rapids, to Frank and Minnie (Zaagman) Ringnalda. She graduated from high school, and in 1948 she married George Jr. Ophoff. Catherine and George raised their two daughters in Southeast Grand Rapids and were members of First Protestant Reformed Church. Following a career as a Grand Rapids Police Officer, George preceded Catherine in death in 1991. Catherine soon moved to Hudsonville and became a member of Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church. She was also preceded in death by her grandchildren: Sara Haveman and Brian Haveman, her siblings: John and Lavina Ringnalda, Lou and Grace Austof, Cornelius and June Ringnalda, Bill and Wilma Mellema, Josephine Grit; her in-laws: Fred and Edith Ophoff, Herman and Louise Ophoff, Adrianna Ophoff.
She is survived by her daughters: Marcia and Joel Zandstra, Mary and Vern Haveman; grandchildren: Emily (Zandstra) and Ben Algera, Geoff Haveman, Richard Zandstra, Elizabeth (Haveman) and Tim Machiele, Ellen (Zandstra) and Nathan Pastoor, Amy (Haveman) and Grant Weaver, Carrie (Haveman) and Kirk Karsemeyer, Catherine (Haveman) and Adam Van Dyke, Arend Haveman; 34 great-grandchildren, brother Wilbur and Karen Ringnalda, brothers-in-law Edward Ophoff, Bob Grit; and many nieces and nephews.
The Ophoff family is very grateful for the excellent care Catherine received as a resident of Sheldon Meadows and as a patient of Spectrum Health Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church, 5101 Beechtree Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 am, Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Garfield Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Protestant Reformed Special Education, 6340 Autumn Drive, Hudsonville MI 49426.
