HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 21, 2023) – Two items of interest are among the topics set to be discussed by the Holland City Council during its biweekly business meeting on Wednesday evening.
One is a rezoning request so that a Kum and Go fueling station and convenience store could be built at the southeast corner of Lincoln Avenue (M-40) and US-31. The .19 acre site is currently owned but not used by the Willow Home Mobile Park. The Kum and Go chain, with over 400 outlets in a dozen states, has moved into the West Michigan region with locations in Grandville, Wyoming and Walker. A proposed renovation of a restaurant site off of East 24th Street and US-31 was reported in March, and the chain continues to seek zoning approval for land off of Quincy Street and US-31 on Holland’s North Side after an initial request was tabled by township planners in April.
Another issue before council members is a proposed five percent “wage adjustment” for all non-unionized general city employees, effective at the beginning of July. This recommendation by the Holland Human Resources office comes after discussions with neighboring communities on the subject, as well as evaluating the city’s contracts with unionized employees. The “adjustment” will cost $545,000, of which nearly 80 percent has already been budgeted for.
The Holland City Council meets in chambers at Holland City Hall, beginning at 6 PM. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
