Allen Foster Utter, age 90, of Hudsonville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, May 26, 2023. He was born November 23, 1932, in Ionia, Michigan, to the late Earl and Dorothy (DeArmond) Utter. Allen proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On July 25, 1958, he married Marilyn Lou Boorsma in Kentwood, MI.
Allen worked at the A& P (Meullers) bakery, Gritter, and Westveer Drapery, Newman Visual Education all in Grand Rapids. He then started his own businesses: Jamestown Drapery in Hudsonville, MI, and Drapery Installation in Burton Heights, MI.
He was a member of Home Acres Reformed Church in Kelloggsville, MI, then later Forest Grove Reformed Church in Jamestown, MI.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, trapping, rabbits, winemaking, and rock hunting for agates and copper in the UP. Later in life, he found gardening, keeping a flock of chickens, and farmers’ markets a fun pastime.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marilyn; children, Michelle (Mark) Timmer and Steven (Melissa) Utter and Brent (Alina) Morgan and Kris (Nicole) Utter; grandchildren, Haley, Drew (Stephanie) Timmer and Christopher (Sarah) Timmer, Wyatt, Journey, Levi, Alysse, and Lucas Utter, and Rafal Borowcsyk and Evangeline, Sienna, Tristyn, Olivia, and Zachariah Utter; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Lilia, and Abigail Timmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl Utter and Dorothy DeArmond Utter; son Christopher Foster Utter; brothers Earl Jr. and Gordon Utter. He is survived by several nephews and nieces.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be buried at Forest Grove Cemetery, Jamestown, MI.
