ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 11, 2023) – Work on making snowmelt a reality in downtown Zeeland could begin this coming week.
The two-year-long, $10.2 million project, which will install the warming coils throughout the corridor of Main Avenue, from Maple to State streets, will start this Monday on the eastern edge and move west. Mayor Kevin Klynstra.
City officials are hopeful of having the snowmelt in place, from Maple to Centennial streets, and perhaps as far as Church Street, by the end of the year.
One stumbling block in the effort was cleared last Monday, when the Zeeland City Council slashed a proposed $2.11 per square foot annual operational assessment for property owners along the snowmelt corridor by more than half, as funding for possible maintenance issues was found to offset the reduction.
More information on the project is here.
