HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 7, 2023) – The Holland City Council has some items to discuss this evening.
On the agenda for the biweekly session are the awarding of a bid for additional drainage work on 40th Street, as well as getting state MDOT participation for that project between Industrial Avenue and US-31. This includes new pavement for that stretch, along with a new storm sewer, drainage improvements to mitigate chronic flooding in the area, and removing existing guardrails that are in poor condition.
Council will also vote on designating over $2.8 million of remaining state and local fiscal recovery funds for Public Safety Department payroll expenses. The city has already spent over five million of the $8.4 million awarded during the COVID-19 outbreak for utility pay-as-you-go capital projects (such as broadband), expanding fire personnel staffing, and increasing wages to retain staff members.
On the consent agenda is a revised bid of $98,000 to Brown Concrete for sidewalk repairs during 2023. City Manager Keith Van Beek admits that this is a chore that never seems to end, not only for the concrete sidewalks, but for the bricks over snowmelt paths.
In addition, council members will go into a closed-door session for reviewing negotiations on collective bargaining agreements, an action allowed under the state’s Open Meetings Act.
The biweekly Holland City Council meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.), beginning at 6 PM. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
