Eugene J. Walters, 91, of Zeeland, met his Lord and Savior face to face on Monday, June 5, 2023.
Gene was born July 18, 1931, in Beaverdam, to John and Marie (Geerlings) Walters. He finished schooling and started his working career as an equipment operator. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-57, and the U.S. Army Reserves until 1963. He worked at Elzinga & Volkers until his retirement. Gene was a longtime member of Jamestown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2013, and his friend Jean Westveld.
Gene loved spending time outdoors hunting, camping, and trapping. He always loved a good card game.
He is survived by his children: Craig & Kim Walters, Eugene & Ruth Walters, Jim & Elaine Walters, Janice Brooks, Gary & Cheryl Walters, Bev & Roger Bekius, Shelly & Mike Miller, Rick & Vicky Walters; 31 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister: Joyce Vander Myde, in-laws: Marlene Walters, Betty Walters, Walt & Sharon Van Klompenberg; and many extended family members.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Monday, also at Yntema’s. Interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jamestown Baptist Church. www.yntemafh.com
