ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 5, 2023) – Current and future items highlight this evening’s scheduled biweekly business meeting of the Zeeland City Council.
A mandatory public hearing is slated ahead of a vote on approving an application by those behind a proposed tavern at the site of the former Elbo Room off of East Main Avenue. The Gritzmaker LLC looks to open this fall, and is seeking a license to sell alcohol by the glass, as well as being incorporated in Zeeland’s Social District. City officials have so far seen no objections to this request in terms of crossing the legal t’s and dotting the legal i’s.
Council will also be asked to approve a $27,000 contract with MCSA Group to conduct a study into the possibility of building a permanent artificial ice skating rink in the city. The firm would look at all aspects of such an undertaking, including costs, size and location. There is an existing synthetic rink located at Elm Street Park.
In addition, Assistant City Manager Kevin Plockmeyer will go over objections voiced by property owners who are balking at a proposed $2.11 per square foot special assessment for a downtown snowmelt system. He and other staffers want some Council feedback on those objections prior to making a formal presentation on such an assessment.
The Zeeland City Council has a 5:45 PM study session ahead of the 7 PM business meeting in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
