HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 2, 2023) – A unique situation occurs on Saturday at Windmill Island Gardens.
The second of two “Tulip Dig” to benefit the Holland in Bloom urban beautification initiative is from 9 AM to 11 AM, depending on how long the bulbs will be available, at the park that houses the iconic DeZwaan Windmill. There is a $10 fee payable at the gate, and participants will be asked to bring their own five-gallon bucket, as well as digging tools and gloves. The normal park admission for visitors outside of Holland and Holland’s North Side will be waived for the event.
City Manager Keith Van Beek cautions that, as the early bird gets the worm, those who wait for the 9 AM sharp beginning of the dig will get the best choice of bulbs.
Normally, there is just one Tulip Dig held after the Tulip Time Festival, and there was an earlier Tulip Dig at Window on the Waterfront Park and at Centennial Park two weeks ago, but city parks staffers kept Windmill Island Gardens off limits at that time due to the flowers still in bloom there.
