HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 18, 2023) – Helping to address and raise awareness of food insecurity in the Holland area is the goal of a Hunger Awareness Weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, a number of organizations will join forces to improve food access for the needy. While the National Association of Letter Carriers held its annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive nationwide last Saturday, the effort is pushed back a week in the two Holland zip codes (49423 and 49424) due to the Tulip Time Festival. Residents and businesses are encouraged to fill special yellow bags of non-perishable food items for mail carriers to pick up.
On Sunday, the CROP Hunger Walk will be staged from 1-3 PM at Centennial Park. While some will be walking to raise funds for non-profits that supply food for the needy, there will be collections held for food donations, and information on aid programs will be available.
Chara Bouma-Prediger is the Assistant Director of Food Access for Community Action House, one of the participating organizations in this Hunger Awareness Weekend.
