HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 9, 2023) – Another step in showing appreciation to those who teach and work in Holland Public Schools was taken on Monday.
As part of the national Teacher Appreciation Week, the district announced that Oralia Mascorro, an instructional assistant at the Holland Language Academy, is the first recipient of the annual Power H IMPACT Award. She has been involved with Holland Public Schools for 46 years, working with those who have English as a second language.
Students, staff and families submitted nominations for those who have made a long-time impact on their students and the school community. Six finalists were selected out of those nominations, and a panel of peers made the final determination of the $5,000 cash prize for the winner and $1,000 cash prizes for the other five.
This award is part of an ongoing effort by Superintendent Nick Cassidy to show more appreciation for those who work with youngsters in the district.
Mascorro will be leading the district’s representation in Thursday’s Tulip Time Festival Kinderparade as part of winning this honor.
Tuesday is National Teacher Appreciation Day, per a proclamation by President Joe Biden issued last Friday.
