Dorothy Mae Schrotenboer passed away at Vista Springs Holland Meadows Assisted Living on April 24, 2023, two weeks before her 99th birthday.
Born to Bert and Alice Assink on May 8, 1924, she was the middle of 5 children. Dorothy lived a full life and loved to be busy. She began working at age 14, after an 8th-grade education, balancing farm work with a 40-hour factory work week. She retired from Herman Miller in 1986 when she then became a partner with her daughter, Judy Elenbaas, opening the Tulip City Antique Mall in Holland. She retired for a 2nd time in 2002 at age 78.
She was a kind selfless soul – always putting others first – a quiet listener – never giving an opinion unless asked. Known for her quick wit and wonderful humor, she was loved by many and she loved many. She lived a full life with grit and perseverance and would always say she had a wonderful life.
She was a lifelong member of Harlem Reformed Church.
