MUSKEGON, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 19, 2023) – Score one loss for Ottawa Impact.
On Tuesday, Muskegon County Circuit Court Judge Jenny McNeill issued a preliminary injunction that will keep Adeline Hambley as Ottawa County’s Health Officer. She had filed suit against the county and its board of commissioners, led by the political action group’s co-founders Joe Moss and Sylvia Rhodea and occupied by nine members who were endorsed by Ottawa Impact in last November’s General Election, after the governing panel attempted to replace Hambley with Nathaniel Kelly during the January 3rd organizational meeting.
Hambley had been designated by the previous county board to replace the retired Lisa Stefanosky as health officer, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human services had approved the appointment as required under state law, but she apparently had not been sworn in to her position before the first of the year, which the current board used as a reason for replacing her with Kelly.
The injunction stands until a trial on Hambley’s lawsuit is held, with no date for that immediately set. McNeill was given the case after the 20th Circuit Court in Grand Haven recused itself because Ottawa County was named as a defendant. The board’s legal counsel plans to file an appeal of this injunction.
