HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 14, 2023) – After more than a fortnight on the run, a 19-year-old Holland man wanted for assaulting an 18-year-old woman in a “critical incident” on Holland’s North Side is in custody.
On Friday, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks announced that Xavier Rose was arrested at a Stratford Way residence in the city of Holland. Deputies were assisted in the matter by the US Marshal’s West Michigan Fugitive Taskforce, state police troopers, and Grand Rapids police officers, with Rose surrendering without incident, and no injuries were reported.
Sparks initially used the term “critical incident” in describing what happened on March 25th at a residence just before 12 Noon at a Westwood Lane residence, in the vicinity of 136th Avenue near Quincy Street. Deputies were dispatched on a report of a man armed with a firearm and a knife inside of an apartment unit. When it was learned that an 18-year-old woman who had been living with an 19-year-old man at the residence had been assaulted, and that she was able to escape the situation and call authorities, responding deputies were augmented by the department’s Critical Response Team and Crisis Negotiators.
While neighbors were evacuated and citizens were asked to avoid the area, the authorities attempted to contact anyone inside, but it turned out that the unit was empty, and the couple’s 18-month-old girl was missing. The child was eventually found with family members of the suspect and was reunited with the unnamed mother, who suffered minor injuries in the incident, while the suspect was being sought, and neighbors were able to return to their homes.
Rose is in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment on various charges while the investigation continues, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
