SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 10, 2023) – The future of Saugatuck’s former airport site will be featured during this evening’s biweekly City Council meeting.
At issue is around 34 acres that the city owns off of 63rd Street in Saugatuck Township, as well as an old landfill site at the end of 134th Avenue. Fleis and VandenBrink looks to conduct Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments for those properties, while the Outdoor Discovery Center wants a chance to address several improvement opportunities, along with mapping existing “primitive” trails there. The total cost is over $16,000, and City Manager Ryan Heise adds that both entities would make themselves available for planning sessions due to anticipated “strong public interest in the conversations related to this property.”
As for the Short Term Rental Task Force, which council created at its last meeting two weeks ago amidst substantial public interest over its composition, with sentiment strongly towards only allowing residents and property owners on that panel, Saugatuck’s leaders are expected to approve retaining McKenna Associated as a consulting firm for that Task Force on this matter.
The Saugatuck City Council business meeting begins at 7 PM in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
