HOLLAND MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 9, 2023) – The road construction season along the Lakeshore and across the state begins in earnest on Monday.
The back half of the renovation of I-196 between Zeeland and Hudsonville gets underway as the eastbound lanes are rebuilt. Eastbound traffic will be diverted to the westbound lanes near Byron Road (Business 196) to near the 32nd Avenue junction. The eastbound exit and entrance ramps at Byron Road will be closed, and Byron Road will be blocked off underneath the expressway. This work is slated to run through September 30th. Last year, westbound I-196 between Hudsonville and Zeeland was rebuilt.
In Holland, US-31 southbound from East 32nd Street to Central Avenue will be narrowed to one lane of through traffic daily, from 8 AM to 3 PM, while that roadway is rebuilt, with similar work slated for northbound US-31 from East 40th to East 32nd streets. This project is slated to go through May 5th.

The Ottawa County Road Commission is closing 96th Avenue east of Holland, from Adams to Ottogan streets, through November 10th, as the bridge over the Macatawa River is rebuilt. It would replace the current span that can only safely handle loads of 10 tons or less. For more information on this and other OCRC road projects, click here.
