EAST LANSING. MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 6, 2023) – One Lakeshore school and three others from the Allegan/Ottawa region are among 45 schools getting new classifications for the next Academic Year in the annual realignment of the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
In order to keep the 750 tournament-qualified member schools evenly balanced by enrollment for elections, the MHSAA on Thursday announced new parameters to take effect this coming fall. Class A is 807 students and above, Class B is 380-806, Class C is 177-379, and Class D is 176 and below. Using these measurements, Fennville moves from Class B to Class C; Plainwell and Spring Lake move from Class A to Class B; and Martin moves from Class D to Class C.
As for tournaments, high schools in Michigan are split by enrollment for each individual team sport that they participate. In this annual realignment, Holland Christian will not be able to defend its Division 3 boys soccer title this coming fall, as the Maroons move to Division 2.
