SPRING LAKE TWP. MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 2, 2023) – A 28-year-old Norton Shores woman faces various charges after slamming into a stopped police cruiser going the wrong way on US-31 overnight on Sunday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill, the unnamed motorist was reported by Grand Haven Public Safety officers going northbound in the southbound lanes as she crossed the drawbridge from Grand Haven to Spring Lake around 3:40 AM. A deputy stopped his own vehicle north of a cement traffic divider near the Van Wagoner Road junction and fully turned on the emergency lights in an effort to stop the wrong way driver.
That motorist did stop, but it was due to veering into that parked cruiser, causing a collision, and the vehicle finally halted in the middle of the roadway. Neither the deputy in the cruiser or the at-fault driver was injured, and there were other vehicles or passengers involved in this situation. The suspect was initially taken by Grand Haven police for a probable final destination of the Ottawa County Jail to await arraignment on various charges.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
