LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 31, 2023) – Unemployment stayed pretty steady along the Lakeshore last month.
In not-seasonally adjusted numbers released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, joblessness in Ottawa County remained at 3.5 percent for February, the same level as in January, and a tenth of a percentage point above last year at this time. In Allegan County, the 4.4 percent mark in February was a tenth higher than in January and also for last year at this time.
Ottawa was among 17 of Michigan’s 83 counties whose unemployment rate remained constant last month, while Allegan was among 44 counties that saw jobless rates rise. Both Lakeshore counties were among 63 statewide that had higher rates from a year ago at this time.
State officials added that regional employment totals, labor force levels and payroll jobs all rose in monthly and yearly comparisons.
