PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 30, 2023) – The dream of a Veterans Park along the Lakeshore is slowing getting closer to becoming a reality.
The Holland Area Veterans Council, consisting of representatives from the local branches of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America, is working with Park Township to convert some of the former Park Township Airport into a Veterans Park to celebrate all those who have served in the six branches of the US military. It will be highlighted by a central fountain, greenscape, a memorial statue, and markers honoring those six branches.
Bob VanDyke is coordinating the efforts towards creating the park off of the junction of Ottawa Beach Road and 152nd Avenue, adjacent to the Township Hall.
A preliminary opinion of probable costs posted on the council’s website is $9.5 million in capital, with an annual operational and maintenance cost of $400,000. More information is available here.
