Lucas Guidone
Three Hope College student-athletes have been selected as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week: track and field’s Lucas Guidone, men’s lacrosse’s Colin Stecco, and track and field’s Ana Tucker.
Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft HS) is the MIAA Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his Flying Dutchmen career.
The sophomore clocked the sixth-fastest, 800-meter time in NCAA Division III on Saturday in Kennesaw, Georgia. Guidone went 1 minute, 52.66 seconds to finish first at the multi-NCAA Division Kennesaw State Don McGarey Invitational.
Stecco (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) is the MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his Hope career.
The senior business major recorded a season-high five goals to lead the Flying Dutchmen during a 20-9 victory against visiting Lake Forest College (Ill.).
An attacker, Stecco returned to the lineup after missing two games because he was skating for Hope’s ice hockey team at the ACHA Division III national championships.
Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) is the MIAA Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete for the first time this season and the third time in her career.
The senior exercise science major clocked the nation’s fastest time in the 10,000 meters on Thursday at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
Tucker bettered her own school record in the event with a second-place run of 34:24.97. Tucker placed behind only Carolien Millenaar of Division I Wake Forest University, who won in 34:20.19.
Tucker’s run was the fastest among all NCAA Division III women’s runners by 2 minutes, 49.03 seconds. Tucker surpassed her previous school record of 35:19.33, which she ran last season.
