HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 26, 2023) – A 20-year-old Holland man begins this week in the Ottawa County Jail after a high-speed chase that started in the Tulip City on Sunday night ended with a crash in Hudsonville.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Eric DeBoer, a Holland Public Safety police officer attempted to pull over a reported stolen vehicle around 10:20 PM, but the driver sped off, and a pursuit ensued. Sheriff’s Deputies picked up the chase as the suspect drove onto I-196 eastbound from the Byron Road (Business 196) entrance, but shortly stopped the pursuit “for reasons related to the safety of the general public,” according to DeBoer in a department statement.
A short time later, deputies came upon the suspect’s vehicle after it had crashed in the center median of the freeway just before the 32nd Avenue exit. The suspect was seen fleeing on foot, and a police canine from the Holland DPS tracked down the man, who was subsequently arrested without further incident. No other persons were hurt in the chase.
The unnamed suspect awaits arraignment on various charges. The case remains open, and anyone with any further information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
