HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 24, 2023) – Two institutions in this area are teaming up during Holland’s annual signature event this spring.
Officials of the Tulip Time Festival announced on Friday that they will partner with Latin Americans United for Progress for the concluding fireworks show over Lake Macatawa on Saturday, May 13th. It continues a collaboration the two groups have had when LAUP held its Fiesta celebration at the Holland Civic Center before the building’s renovation in 2017-18 on the first Saturday of Tulip Time compelled that group to move its event to the Shops at Westshore campus.
Gwen Auwerda, Executive Director of Tulip Time, said in a statement:
“Following the remodeling of the Civic Center, we have been exploring new ways to collaborate again. The Fireworks seemed like the perfect place to partner together with LAUP managing the entertainers and food vendors prior to the fireworks at Kollen Park. I like to think of the fireworks as a ‘bright’ ending to a wonderful week of celebration in the community, kind of a ‘take-back-the-town’ celebration as most tourists have returned home.”
Johnny Rodriguez, Executive Director of Holland-based LAUP:
“Tulip Time is an important and prominent part of the Holland community. People from all over the state, region, and world travel to Holland for this beautiful spring festival. We felt that it was important to partner with Tulip Time to connect Holland’s Latino community to the festival so that a truly equitable and diverse Tulip Time can be brought together. The fireworks show at the end of Tulip Time festival is more than just a beautiful spectacle. It symbolizes the unity between LAUP and Tulip Time, two organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in our community.”
The fireworks festivities begins in Kollen Park at 5:30 PM with food and entertainment, with the explosive conclusion at dusk, around 9:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the countdown to the start of the 94th Tulip Time Festival continues, with the opening Tulip Time Run, also at Kollen Park, set for six weeks from tomorrow morning, although the Carnival begins a day earlier in the parking lot outside of the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place.
