ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 24, 2023) – An 83-year-old Coopersville man is recovering from injuries sustained when he lost control of his vehicle north of Allendale and it ended up in a pond on Friday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cal Keuning, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of 60th Avenue and Warner Street just after 12:30 PM. That was where a northbound vehicle went off of the roadway and through a nearby field before going into the water.
Neighbors and bystanders used a row boat to get to the submerged vehicle and pull the driver out by the time the first responders arrived. The unnamed motorist was taken to an undisclosed hospital in stable condition, while Sheriff’s Department Dive Team members helped get the vehicle out of the pond.
Keuning gave no further details as to the circumstances that led the motorist to lose control of his vehicle as the incident remains under investigation.
