HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 20, 2023) – Spring may officially begin this evening on the calendar, but the road construction season is already underway.
Crews are already out along US-31 in Grand Haven and M-89 in Otsego, with more on the way, according to Alex Doty of the Ottawa County Road Commission.
The biggest road project along the Lakeshore is the second half of renovating I-196 between Zeeland and Hudsonville, with the eastbound lanes from Byron Road to 32nd Avenue getting renovated, and two-way traffic on the westbound lanes that were rebuilt last summer. Shoulder work in advance of this phase of the project gets underway today.
In downtown Holland, 6th Street from River to Columbia avenues will be reconstructed, as well as College Avenue extended northward into Window on the Waterfront Park, but that work won’t begin until after the Tulip Time Festival concludes in early May.
