HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 15, 2023) – There will be at least one new face on the Holland City Council at year’s end.
On Wednesday, Sixth Ward Councilman Dave Hoekstra announced that he would not seek reelection to a sixth four-year term.
“It has been a privilege to serve the residents of the Sixth Ward for the past 20 years,” he said in a statement. “Whenever elections came around, I asked myself if I had the energy, drive, sense of purpose and desire to ask the residents for another term. At this juncture, my sense is it’s time to step aside and give space for new leadership.
“I’m deeply grateful for the experience of serving on Council. Together we have accomplished great things, and I believe we will continue to do the right things in the right way for the benefit of every person.”
Since he was first elected in 2003, Hoekstra has been on various municipal committees, most notably the International and Human Relations Commissions, along with the Civic Center Renovation Group.
The other City Council spots that voters in Holland will be asked to decide is the Second Ward, with Jay Peters currently finishing his fourth four-year term, first-term Fourth Ward Council Member Nicki Arendshorst; at large Council Member Lyn Raymond; and Mayor Nathan Bocks, who has served three two-year terms.
