SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 13, 2023) – One of the Lakeshore’s top communities for short-term rentals may want to hit the pause button.
This coming Thursday, the City of Saugatuck Planning Commission will consider such a proposal following the formation of a Short-Term Rental Task Force to consider reforms to the city’s existing ordinances for those who wish to rent their property out for visitors to stay at for days at a time. The matter of the rapid growth of short-term rentals was identified as a top priority in the city’s annual community survey, and a draft ordinance is included in this meeting’s agenda.
In addition, the planners may also put a hold on permitting large commercial developments along Saugatuck’s waterfront at that meeting, mostly due to environmental concerns. Both of these proposals for pausing must be approved by the City Council before they can take effect.
Saugatuck’s planners meet this coming Thursday evening at 7 PM in the second-floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler Street), with a link to the agenda, supporting documents, and virtual participation here.
The Saugatuck City Council holds its biweekly business meeting this evening at 7 PM, also in the second-floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall. Council is expected to go over some fee schedule requests, along with approving a $15,000 proposal from Fleis and Vandenbrink for drawing up a conceptual plan for a long-discussed Mount Baldhead Park renovation. A link to the agenda, supporting documents and virtual participation is here.
