ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 8, 2023) – An addition to Zeeland’s downtown district, which includes the return of an eatery, could be a reality next year.
The Zeeland City Council on Monday night approved a purchase development agreement with Wooden Nickel LLC on city-owned property in the 100 block of East Main Street. The developers want to demolish existing one-story buildings and build a new three-story structure, along with a pedestrian passageway, that would expand two existing businesses, allow the return of the Public Restaurant, and create eight two-bedroom/one-bathroom apartment units above the retail establishments.
City Manager Tim Klunder says that he’s “more than excited” about this development.
Wooden Nickel will now begin site preparation efforts, seek state financial incentives, and submit plan and design proposals for city approval. An opening by the fall of 2024 is projected.
