Grand Valley State captured the GLIAC women’s basketball tournament title with a 62-54 victory over visiting Michigan Tech at the Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale yesterday, thanks in part to 25 points from Emily Spitzley. The Lakers will take on Kentucky Wesleyan in a first-round NCAA Division II Championship Tournament game at Ashland on Friday afternoon.
In state major-college basketball yesterday, Indiana outlasted Michigan in overtime, 75-73.

In spring training baseball yesterday, the Detroit Tigers fell to the Minnesota Twins, 6-2, the Chicago Cubs downed the Colorado Rockies, 6-5, and the Chicago White Sox lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-4. This afternoon, the Tigers meet the Boston Red Sox in Florida, while the Cubs clash with the Seattle Mariners in Arizona.
