HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 1, 2023) – An effort to address increasing low-income housing, one of Holland’s priorities as expressed by its elected leaders, while disposing of city-owned property, could take a step forward on Wednesday night.
During its biweekly business meeting, the Holland City Council is slated to vote on a proposal to sell land at 345 Kollen Park Drive to Dwelling Place and the Community Action House. The property is adjacent to land off of West 14th Street that Dwelling Place/Community Action House already owns, and the two groups are looking to join the two properties in order to build a single apartment building of 40 to 45 one and two-bedroom units, as well as five three-bedroom townhouses.
The plan also includes Dwelling Place and Community Action House buying a separate privately-owned property at what is only described as a “prominent central city location” for building 20 to 30 more apartment units. The 18-month option agreement is worth five thousand dollars, and is contingent on the two non-profits having a development plan approved by the city, as well as the entities securing incentive packages from the city and the state Housing Development Authority.
Wednesday’s 6 PM Holland City Council meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.), with an online link to the agenda and supporting documents here.
