HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 23, 2023) – Now that the latest wintry weather has moved to the east, the effects will be felt by some for some time to come.
The Lakeshore was on the line between snow and ice from 10 AM Wednesday through the overnight hours on Thursday. About an inch of snow and sleet fell in Ottawa County, while freezing rain was the scourge in Allegan County.
As the storm moved east, Consumers Energy reports over two thousand of its regional customers, mostly in Allegan County, were without power as of dawn on Thursday, with the biggest area (733 affected customers) north and east of Saugatuck, including the location of the WYVN-FM transmitter. An initial restoration time of 5:30 PM on Sunday, February 26th was posted on the Jackson-based utility’s website. No outages were reported by either the Holland or Zeeland boards of public works.
For a second straight day, local school districts called a “snow day” on Thursday and canceled classes.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids said in its daily Hazardous Weather Outlook on Thursday morning that, “Light snow and sleet are possible north of I-96 this morning. Roadways will remain slick. Gusty winds upwards of 30 to 40 MPH with dropping temperatures that will refreeze any ice could slow recovery from the winter storm.”
