SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 22, 2023) – It was a busy Wednesday for South Haven Area Emergency Services personnel.
They were first called to the area of 72nd Street near 14th Avenue in South Haven Township just before 2 PM. An attached garage was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, and it took about three hours to bring the blaze under control and to limit the damage done to the residence. No injuries were reported.
The second call came just before 6 PM when a home in the southwest Allegan County community of Casco Township caught fire. Treacherous ice-covered roads hampered crews from getting to the residence off of 63rd Street, and water had to be shuttled from the nearby Gingerman Raceway, as well as from tankers from the Ganges and Columbia township fire departments, before the blaze was brought under control. A person living at the house was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but no firefighters were hurt.
Both blazes are under investigation, with no dollar estimate of damage done in either incident immediately made. SHAES officials added that around two dozen calls for help were made during the just-completed winter weather incident.
