Diver Abby Koops and swimmer Sara Kraus have been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their sports.
Both are honored after excelling at last week’s MIAA Championships and being named MIAA Most Valuable Athletes by the league’s coaches.
Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern HS) swept both boards at the MIAA Championships for the second year in a row and helped the Flying Dutch earn their consecutive league title.
The sophomore nursing major recorded a first-place total of 441.75 points on the 3-meter board.
Koops finished with a winning score of 441.15 points on the 1-meter board.
This is the fourth time this season and the eighth time overall that Koops has been named MIAA Women’s Diver of the Week.
Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) competed in three winning relays and notched three individual victories.
In the first two days of competition, the sophomore exercise science major competed in the first-place 800-yard freestyle relay (7:28.81) and the winning 400-medley relay (3:47.00).
Kraus won her first individual title of the meet in the 100 back on Friday. Her time of 54.97 broke the previous record of 55.84 which was set in 2019.
Kraus closed out day three with an MIAA record-breaking win in the 200 medley relay (1:43.31). The previous record of 1:43.65 was set last year by Albion.
Her final individual win was a new MIAA record and the fastest time in Division III. Kraus clocked in at 1:57.94 in the 200 back.
This is the third time this season and the seventh time overall that Kraus has been named MIAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
